About Joe Hawkins Memorial Park

Located at 1501 W. 8th Street, this 1-acre park in northwest Michigan City offers a peaceful neighborhood space with an ADA-accessible playground, picnic shelter, and bike rack. Formerly known as the 8th Street Tot Lot, it was renamed in 2007 to honor Joe Hawkins, a local community advocate dedicated to improving the lives of others. A limestone pillar and bronze plaque at the entrance commemorate his legacy.
