Rip Currents are occurring in Lake Michigan. A rip current is a very strong undercurrent that pulls a swimmer far away from shore deep into the lake.

RIP CURRENTS CAN KILL

TO AVOID INJURY OR DEATH IN A RIP CURRENT:

Avoid swimming and going into the lake when rip currents are present.

If caught in a rip current, don’t panic and don’t fight the current – let it take you out. Swim parallel to the shore until you get out of the rip current, and then waive for help or swim back to shore.

Learn to swim.

Always regard warnings and rules. Always exercise sound common sense!

Alcohol, drugs and Lake Michigan are dangerous combinations – Do not go into the lake if under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Lake Michigan is a wonderful recreational resource; however, ALWAYS RESPECT ITS POWER!
