What’s Goin’ On At Fedder’s Alley

Construction has begun on Fedder’s Alley’s new destination all-inclusive playground, and we’re excited to show you what’s coming.

The project does more than add a playground. It includes a new walking trail winding through Fedder’s Alley, an outdoor workout pad, public art, and a new restroom building with adult changing stations and family bathrooms. At the center is a playground built to reset what “all inclusive” means.

A playground for everyone

Meeting ADA standards was the starting point, not the finish line. Every piece was chosen so more people can play together:

  • Sensory pods for kids who get overstimulated and need a quiet place to reset,
  • A metal slide for kids with cochlear implants who can’t handle a static charge,
  • Braille and sign language on the name plates,
  • Adaptive swings and zip lines,
  • Musical components for kids who are under stimulated and for those who are hearing impaired,
  • Weighted components for our older community members who still love the joy of a playground.

Our goal was a park where children, seniors, and everyone in between can find something that works for them.

What’s happening on site right now

Crews are doing earthwork, grading the landscape and prepping for asphalt. With construction vehicles moving in and out of the site, we decided it’s best to close Fedder’s Alley to drive-through traffic for the rest of the season. You can still walk through to reach the beach paths.

Thank you, and an invitation

None of this would be possible without our donors, and we’re grateful to every person and organization that has stepped up. Several structures in the project are still available for sponsorship, so if you’ve been thinking about getting involved, now is a great time. We love seeing the community come together to give Michigan City and all of LaPorte County a park that takes the term all inclusive to a new level.
